Philippines
is known as a tropical country with climate characterized mostly as high
temperature, high humidity and abundant rainfall and thus the average storms
and typhoons we have in our country is around twenty (20) per year.\
We Filipinos, has long been
experiencing typhoons of different strengths, some might say we’re already used
to the heavy flooding and that is why we are continuously adjusting, raising
our roads and homes. Different kinds of alerts and preparation were also
developed over time, however a few times we were caught off-guard, especially
during super typhoons. I guess no matter how prepared we think we are, we can
never be fully prepared when a super typhoon strikes.
Super typhoon Ulysses entered
Philippine area of responsibility on November 11-12, 2020, this typhoon has hit
Luzon the hardest. It killed dozens of people, destroyed thousands of homes and
left Luzon flooded. Billion pesos were lost. Fund aids from the Philippine
Government and other countries poured to help our nation get back to its feet.
Thus, recovering has been a little bit challenging for our government and
nation given the current pandemic state in our country due to the Covid-19
virus.
So we, the Sangguniang Kabataan ng Malanday, did a sit-down meeting and brainstormed how we can help give assistance in our own little way to those greatly affected by this calamity. We decided to go to Malanday, Marikina City our namesake barangay that has been widely affected. By launching the donation drive #DamayMalanday, we were able to collect and turnover clean drinking water, relief goods, vitamins and clothes to the SK Council of Malanday Marikina that will be distributed to the families.
For others this may seem small, but for us, this act of kindness is our way of helping our kababayans and can set as an example to inspire the YOUTH that look up on us as their role model. We want to send a message that our “Kabataan IS STILL the hope of our Nation”, that there is more to us than just viral tiktoks, vlogs and photo ops just to gather likes. We are taking responsibility for the future and that hope is not wasted on us.
